TWO CHRISTMAS POEMS

From the December 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

AGAIN STAR AND SONG

The truly wise still see a star to guide them
To ways of peace.
The shepherd heart still hears a song foretelling
A world's release.

They will follow the star
Until it marks the place.
There let them leave their gifts
With lowly grace.

Let the old song be sung
Again—again—
By chastened multitudes :
Good will to men.

BETHLEHEM

"Let us now go to Bethlehem."
The little town—it is not far.
Our gifts may simple be, and light—
A lifted song, a care laid down,
A love-lit smile, a banished frown,
Or a lone watch through a dark night
Made brief with prayer. Then lo, the star
Above the place in Bethlehem!
