I became interested in Christian Science in 1918, shortly before entering college. At that time I was suffering from a diseased condition of the tonsils which had troubled me for several years. My father had recently been healed through this Science of a physical difficulty, and he and my mother had taken up the study of this subject and had started to attend church services. He asked me if I did not want to try Christian Science for this throat trouble rather than have the tonsils removed, as had been recommended by the physician. I told him that although I had little faith in Christian Science, I would try it. He then read to me a religious article from The Christian Science Monitor. My tonsils were sore when he started to read the article, but were completely well when he finished it. The healing has been permanent.
For the next few years I accepted Christian Science but did not sincerely study it. During this time I was greatly troubled with a stomach difficulty which handicapped me in my college work and other activities. I got to the point where I was afraid to eat. Then one day I read an article in The Christian Science Journal which spiritually enlightened me as nothing else had ever done. I read and reread it many times. A new interest in Science developed, and I started to study in earnest the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The stomach trouble was healed in a few days, but the spiritual light which came to me during the months that followed meant far more than the physical healing.
During the years since, I have experienced many other healings in Christian Science. Scarlet fever, influenza, sprains, the tobacco habit, business problems, faulty traits of character, all have yielded to the application of Christian Science, some almost instantaneously, others slowly; some with the aid of a practitioner and others without.
