About twenty years ago I was staying with a friend at a Lancashire seaside resort. We had heard a little about Christian Science, and we had a great desire to attend a service. We had no idea what form the services took, or what time they commenced, but one Wednesday evening when we saw the church lighted up we went in.
I have always been grateful for the light seen from the outside of the church, but I cannot express in words my gratitude for the light of Truth inside the church. I shall never forget that first service, for I felt I had never been so near to God. The reverence and love expressed brought tears of joy to my eyes. As a result of this visit I had the desire to study Christian Science. This study has taught me to know God, and man as His image and likeness, and has also taught me the value of true spiritual love, which I have proved saves, regenerates, and heals all difficulties.
I was quickly healed of a very badly sprained ankle; also, an unsightly wart on my hand disappeared. I had read an article in one of our periodicals which quoted the following from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." I held firmly to this truth and destroyed the material remedies I had previously used—and they were many. During the week that followed I noticed that the wart had disappeared.
