PRAYER FOR NEW YEAR'S DAY

From the January 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Thou crownest the year with thy goodness," O Lord,
May we in our living keep thought in accord
With all that is holy, that we may possess
The good that is ours through Spirit's largess.
May we remain confident, free from all fear,
Knowing that good is Thy gift for the year.
And what is a year but the heart's quiet space,
A time for repentance and growing in grace,
Until thought is lifted to absolute Truth
And time is no longer—no age and no youth.
When good, Spirit's substance, is clearly discerned
To be omnipresent, God's nature is learned,
And fear of all evil is thus rightly banned
By knowing that good is forever at hand.
So may we lift thought to perceive our reward:
"Thou crownest the year with thy goodness," O Lord.
