For a long time I have listened to the...

From the January 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For a long time I have listened to the suggestion, Wait until you have actually worked out some big problem before writing a testimony for the periodicals; but Love says, Someone may need just what you have to give. I have felt the healing touch of the Christ and feel I must express gratitude for it.

In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 30) Mrs. Eddy asks, "Should we adopt the 'simple addition' in Christian Science and doubt its higher rules, or despair of ultimately reaching them, even though failing at first to demonstrate all the possibilities of Christianity?"

My first healing in Science was of a severe cold, which lasted many weeks. I know now that it was a result of grief, occasioned by the untimely passing on of a sister. I was reluctant to believe that God had done this, and for a reason of His own, as false theology teaches, but was longing to know why this dreadful thing had happened to our family, never dreaming that there was an answer in Christian Science. I discussed with my mother the advisability of asking for Science treatment for this physical difficulty, because we had had proof in our home that this Science heals pain. I requested treatment, and was healed immediately of the cold and also of constipation, which had just begun to hold me in bondage. I was especially grateful for the latter healing, because I had seen a member of our family take medicine for this trouble for as long as I could remember. After the first few visits to the practitioner, I lost my fear of the hereafter and was no longer concerned about the reason for error, but was greatly comforted by the explanations given me by the practitioner.
