"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;... I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works." These words taken from Psalm 145 express my deep gratitude to God for the blessings and great joy which have come to me through the study of Christian Science, given to the world by Mary Baker Eddy.
I have been a student of this wonderful truth for twenty-seven years, and it has been of inestimable value in rearing our two children. Both of them were born under Science treatment. They have attended the Christian Science Sunday School, and I am grateful for the loving and competent instruction they received there. During all these years Truth has met our every need quickly and permanently.
I did not have the opportunity to prove the healing power of Christian Science for myself, because I was in excellent health, until a short time ago, when I was suddenly stricken with a serious illness. I do not know what the name of the malady was, for I did not consult a physician, but turned to God for help, relying entirely on Christian Science. For four months I was so weak that I could not walk more than a few yards. Yet during this period I was not confined to my bed for a single day, but was able to be about the house so that my husband, who is not a student of Christian Science, did not become alarmed about the condition. On one or two occasions when I was alone in the house I felt as though I were losing consciousness. At once the thought came to me, almost as a voice speaking, "Go forth, and stand upon the mount" (I Kings 19:11). I did rise to my feet and declare aloud that God is my Life and my strength, and that this Life and strength were with me at that very instant. I vigorously denied the weakness and said aloud, "I am not afraid; nothing can frighten me because God is here." Soon my strength returned, and I felt normal and safe in God's care.
