IN all human history, no more poignant cry has reached out to God than mankind's unceasing plea for justice. This unquenchable desire hints the presence of the divine order of being, wherein God, good, reigns supreme and righteousness and equity are the eternal facts of existence. The Psalmist recognized God as the source of justice and sang (Ps. 89:14), "Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face." And he continued his strain: "Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance."
Man, God's idea, acts righteously and expresses the wisdom and fairness of divine Mind in every thought. His entire being is equitably controlled by his Maker. Christian Science unveils this spiritual likeness of God as one's real selfhood and demonstrates God's will as the law of the universe, justly governing every idea in Mind's infinite, spiritual kingdom. Justice is an inherent characteristic of divine law, an invariable force which may be invoked and demonstrated as Mind's omniactive will. When understood, it is available to control every human circumstance.
Instinctively one knows that righteousness is protected by God. Christian Science explains such instinct as evidence of the eternal justice of Mind, which the false, mortal sense of existence cannot hide. Mary Baker Eddy says in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 139), "Justice, honesty, cannot be abjured; their vitality involves Life,—calm, irresistible, eternal." Right is preserved in Mind, and wrong cannot escape the doom of self-destruction.
