In 1931 I encountered economic difficulties and was also a slave to tobacco and alcohol. I decided to give Christian Science a trial in order to solve my economic problems. I was soon freed from the drinking habit without even noticing when it left me. It took me several years to overcome the enslavement to tobacco. My economic situation improved as I began to live Christian Science in proportion to my understanding.
In spite of the difficulties of finding suitable work, I found employment in the country in October, 1947. I had to prove during this time that nobody can remove us from a position where God has placed us.
As nobody here had heard about Christian Science, my greatest desire was to make it known. One morning I suddenly was seized with such an attack of illness that my neighbors expected me to pass on. When the telegram I sent to a practitioner reached its destination, I went to sleep and after several hours awoke perfectly well, to the great astonishment of those around me.
