When I was in my early teens seldom a week went by that I was not out of school two or three days because of illness. During high school I never took the required physical education course because of these difficulties. Consecrated work was done by Christian Science practitioners and my family, and I found the healing slowly-going on. Many unlovely traits of character had to be put aside, and much spiritual growth took place. By the time I was through college I had taken part in all the required physical education courses and had even played on the basketball and soccer teams. I am grateful for the freedom I now have from physical difficulties.
Gratitude for physical healing is only a small part of this testimony. I am especially grateful for all the lessons Love taught me. It seems that the physical ailments almost always followed the loss of temper or the display of some unlovely trait of character. But I am so grateful to have put these false traits behind me and to know that "I walk with Love along the way" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 139) and am therefore always capable of doing the loving thing.
I have also been healed of pneumonia at two different times, one of these healings taking place in three days. I have been healed of a broken arm and a severe burn; loose gums around the teeth have returned to normal; and an instantaneous healing of influenza was experienced. My mother has been healed of the need of wearing glasses, and my father was healed of the severe effects of an automobile accident. There are many other healings I have witnessed in our family, and I can truly testify that Christian Science does heal, because we have never relied on any other means since I was a small child.
