THROUGHOUT the Bible and in many writings on the Christian religion the idea of God as Father has been iterated and reiterated, and the numerous beautiful and inspiring passages in the Bible developing this thought have brought courage and strength to many individuals in time of need. In her writings Mary Baker Eddy has unfolded to mankind the fuller meaning of God's fatherhood and, what is of transcendent importance, has completed the revelation with the disclosure that God is Mother as well as Father.
What a wonderful revelation this is! Who can measure the comfort and peace which come with the dawning understanding of God not only as Father but also as Mother, with all the tenderness, strength, and compassion, the purity and love, that this thought implies? Following a glimpse of these wonderful truths with their inspiring message there must inevitably appear the desire to better understand God as Father-Mother and man as the son of God. Through the study of the Scriptures and Mrs. Eddy's writings, this desire is fulfilled.
The student of Christian Science learns that man's health, harmony, purity, and dominion do not originate within himself, but are derived from the all-harmonious, universal Father-Mother God—are, indeed, His attributes, forever expressed by man. Demonstration of the fact that whatever man reflects is from God not only constitutes obedience to the First Commandment (Ex. 20:3),"Thou shalt have no other gods before me," and gives Him the glory due His name as the author of all that is real, but also is the highest form of praise and gratitude to Him as All-in-all, as the only cause and creator.
