About fifteen years ago a neighbor who was studying Christian Science told me much about it and of course wanted me to be blessed as she had been. She gave me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. At that time I felt that it might be all right for her, but not for me. I took the book home and put it in an old trunk.
In March of 1943 I was taken ill. Our family doctor was called in, and he sent me to the hospital for X rays. I was told I had tuberculosis and must remain in bed for the rest cure, taking four kinds of medicine. We accepted what the doctor had said, and I went to bed.
At that time we had two children, a girl of thirteen and a boy of nine. About the middle of July the little boy became ill, and although we took him to the hospital, where everything was done for him that was possible, five days later he passed on, leaving us brokenhearted. I was not even able to attend his funeral.
