Christian Science was called to my attention by the wonderful healing of a relative of eye trouble. Because I had been interested in religious questions ever since my youth and had read a great deal of literature on the subject, I wanted to know how the healing had been brought about. I reasoned that if healings of this nature were possible again today, they must have as their basis the same divine Principle as that from which Jesus worked two thousand years ago.
Friends lent me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I studied every free moment. Although I did not understand much of the message it contained, I could not forget it. Somehow or other it satisfied my longing for something better, something higher, than the religious views commonly entertained. And more than anything else I wanted to get well.
I thought to myself, If Christian Science helped in the case of my relative, why should it not help me? I asked the same practitioner for treatment for a serious case of heart trouble. Although the desired result did not materialize, the work done was not in vain, for at times I felt more spiritually uplifted than ever before in my life.
