Through the study and application of Christian Science, I can say with the Psalmist (40:2), "He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings."
At the time that Christian Science came into my life I was disillusioned, bitter, and fearful, believing in neither God nor man. As so often happens when materiality is considered the basis of happiness and security, when those material props began to fail they broke up rapidly one after another. Suddenly I found myself lacking everything in life worth having—health, peace, love, supply, home—yes, I even seemed to lack God. But our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in the textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 322): "The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science."
Such was my experience. The desire to render assistance to a relative who had turned to Christian Science for healing of a serious eye condition led me to offer to read the textbook to her. Soon I was reading it every spare moment, because I felt that 1 had found the true remedy for all human ills. Before I had completed my first reading of the book I was entirely healed of insomnia from which I had suffered for nearly five years. At the same time I realized that I was free of violent attacks of indigestion, which had been regular occurrences several times a week.
