Although I was antagonistic toward...

From the July 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Although I was antagonistic toward what I thought Christian Science to be, I was led through prayer to visit a practitioner at a time of great need. I had always longed for a better understanding of God. The practitioner pointed out so clearly God's allness, His omnipotence, and His great love for His children that I knew I had found the truth that I had been seeking. I left his office rejoicing.

Through the study of Christian Science my outlook toward life was changed from one of resignation to dullness, limitation, and unhappiness to the expectancy and realization of joyfulness and unlimited good. I had always wished to travel, but there was neither the money nor the opportunity to do so. As I learned that God is the source of all opportunity and supply, the way opened for me to accept employment first in the Bahamas, then in Japan, and later in Germany. Each of these opportunities came to me through a different channel and was a separate demonstration.

An outstanding healing occurred while I was fifteen hundred miles from home visiting a friend. A rash and swelling appeared on my arms and legs and continued to spread until it covered almost my entire body. The second night I went to bed with a great sense of fear, and I awoke in the middle of the night choking. My face was distorted by the swelling, and I was unable to swallow or to speak clearly. My friend called a practitioner and was asked to read the ninety-first Psalm to me. Within an hour I was able to call the practitioner myself, and she assured me that I need have no fear of going back to sleep, that the everlasting arms of the Almighty were guarding and protecting me. The fear was destroyed, and I slept peacefully. In the morning the condition was healed completely, and there was no evidence of the swelling and rash. There have been many other physical healings, but never has there been such a sense of fear to be overcome as in that instance.
