Moses prayed, with his hands uplifted,
Aaron and Hur stood beside,
When Israel fought in the wilderness,
By the Amalekites defied.
The Bible speaks often of Aaron
Standing with Moses alone,
But except for this simple story
Very little of Hur is known.
The record is brief but reveals
The trend of a loyal life:
Hur stood by his leader when needed.
Upholding his hands in the strife.
Is the battle today uncertain?
Do evil forces assail?
The example of Hur reminds us
Where to stand, that we may prevail.
