At long last I wish to take advantage of the opportunity offered through the Christian Science periodicals to express grateful acknowledgment of the benefits Science has brought me, including indispensable help in the solution of the problems of life.
It is my desire to give praise and thanks to our loving God and to acknowledge His Son, Christ Jesus, as the Way-shower. My deep gratitude also goes out to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Her discovery of the original spiritual sense of the Scriptures and her elucidation of their healing truths have made it possible for me to progress in disciplining mind and body.
Shortly after the First World War, I suffered from an attack of influenza which proved nearly fatal. Both ears were abscessed, and the prognosis of the two physicians in attendance was that if I recovered I would be partially deaf and liable to headaches during wet weather or while swimming with my head submerged. This was particularly frightening to me, for I was a professional musician and had just signed a contract to play in a theater orchestra when the attack of influenza came.
