"FOLLOW ME"

From the March 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christ Jesus said to his disciples, "Follow me," what did he mean? He meant to follow not his personality but the Christ, which he exemplified in his human experience; the Christ, which he lived, loved, and demonstrated.

Paul said, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him" (Col. 2:6). It is by walking mentally with Truth and Love, by keeping the Master's commandments in the spirit and the letter, that one becomes a true follower of the Christ.

In the Scriptures we read of the excuses given by those who let human affairs delay their response to the call, "Follow me." Doubtless these excuses seemed praiseworthy to those who gave them, but if love for the Christ had been uppermost in their hearts, they would have responded at once to the Master's call.
