God Is My Defense

From the March 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

O God, Thou art my Life;
I will trust in Thee and not be afraid.
Thou art Life everlasting, enfolding all Thy creation;
I am safe in Thy love.

Thou hast wrought me and fashioned me,
And Thy mighty power ever supports the works of Thy hands;
Thy creation also standeth before Thee forever—
All Thy works are perfectly known unto Thee.

When shafts of evil would dart in upon me,
Then will I take refuge in the fortress of Thy mercy;
When serpentine wickedness would whisper deceiving lies,
I will rest in the shelter of Thy love.

Dear Father, I will trust in Thee and not be afraid;
For Thou art my Life, my refuge of love forever.
