CHURCH BUILDING AND DEDICATION

From the March 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In childhood I witnessed my mother's restoration to health in two Christian Science treatments after the doctors, because of a complication of diseases of many years' standing, had given her but one month to live. This remarkable healing brought our family and a number of our friends into Christian Science.

Such healings in multiple draw strangers to our churches, increase our membership, and assure provision for the building and dedication of representative edifices. The Church of Christ, Scientist, is founded on and practices the teachings and healing works of the one of whom God said (Mark 9:7), "This is my beloved Son: hear him." Of this same master Christian and church builder our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Christian Healing" (p. 2), "Past, present, future magnifies his name who built, on Truth, eternity's foundation stone, and sprinkled the altar of Love with perpetual incense."

Christ Jesus' teachings reveal man's true selfhood to be maintained by God, Spirit, and the true Church to be built and maintained by divine Principle. Christian Science teaches that this Principle is the one divine Person, of whom man is the pure, perfect reflection, subject to His will. On this premise Church and man are indissolubly united. To God's holy beneficence the evils of dissension, disruption, false ambition, lack, and limitation are unknown. Truth unfolds the veritable idea of Church in the timelessness of eternity. Therefore we may rightly expect to see manifest not only representative church edifices, but their early dedication. For such an expectation to be realized, however, the students of this Science must first dedicate their lives to God, steadfastly uphold the truth of Church and man, and live in consonance with the By-Laws of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, which are inspired by Truth and demonstrate the Golden Rule.
