"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." According to the Gospel of Mark (16:15) these words were included in Jesus' last command to his disciples. It should be noted that the disciples were to preach to all mankind. To the meek, the mighty, the sick, the healthy, the sinner, the ignorant, the learned, the Gentile, the Jew—the healing, saving grace of the eternal Christ was to be revealed.
Mark continues (verse 20), "And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following." The book of Acts provides ample evidence of the truth of this record. Philip explained Christ to the Ethiopian who had charge of all the treasures of the Queen of Ethiopia. Peter, at God's command, brought Jesus' teachings to Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian band. He demonstrated the healing truths of the Gospel by instantly restoring the crippled beggar at the gate of the temple to a normal state of strength and suppleness. Paul and Silas taught the Word of God to a Grecian woman named Lydia and her family. Paul revealed the Christ to the "barbarous" Maltese by healing those who were diseased among them. These are but a few of the many instances in which the disciples carried the Word and demonstrated its power.
Following the example of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, Mary Baker Eddy made it quite clear that Christian Science, likewise, is not to be limited to any certain group of people. The appeal of Christianity and Christian Science is universal, and it will be welcomed wherever thought is prepared to receive it. The obedience of Jesus' followers in preaching to all mankind the healing gospel resulted in the active daily growth of the early church.
