GUARDING THE GATEWAY OF THOUGHT

From the March 1955 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What a glorious thing it is to find that one's true being is the perfect outcome of God, divine Mind. Christian Science teaches that man's being is not a stationary, static condition of matter, but the ever-unfolding activity of Spirit.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, states in her work "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 82): "Man is the offspring and idea of the Supreme Being, whose law is perfect and infinite. In obedience to this law, man is forever unfolding the endless beatitudes of Being; for he is the image and likeness of infinite Life, Truth, and Love." But mortals are falsely conditioned by the testimony of the five physical senses to accept matter and a so-called material universe as actual. These deceiving senses present man as being born into an uncertain, fluctuating existence, where he is subject to the false beliefs of sin, fear, accident, lack, and death. The joy of awakening from this illusion of mortal sense awaits every sincere seeker for the truth of being as revealed by the teachings of Christian Science. This Science makes it plain that man exists now at the standpoint of perfection—never having been touched by, but being forever free from, the binding beliefs of a false material sense of existence.

Now to read the above statements and intellectually agree with them, or to say, "Yes, I have always known these things," is not enough. There must be more than mere agreement with these facts if they are to become operative in our human experience. They need to be practiced until they become a part of our daily life.
