I have expressed my gratitude for Christian Science vocally many times at Wednesday evening meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist, and at testimony meetings held by students of Science in the armed forces. It is now time that I share my experience through our periodicals.
Christian Science came to our family in 1905 through the healing of my mother. She had been a semi-invalid for fifteen years, and finally a consultation of several outstanding physicians resulted in the verdict that she had but a few months to live. I recall that within two weeks after receiving help from a Christian Science practitioner she went for a mile walk in the country. She remained with us over thirty-five years beyond that day living a happy, useful life.
My father was deeply affected by my mother's healing. He had been provoked into agnosticism by the overstrict orthodoxy of his boyhood church, but he returned to religion with an almost childlike joy and simplicity. His study of Christian Science and his habitual attendance at church services were accompanied by a wonderful mellowing and sweetening of his nature. He often acknowledged that he had gained great peace and strength to sustain him through experiences which in prior years would have broken him because of their severity.
