Although I have given many testimonies in Churches of Christ, Scientist, through the years that I have been a student of Christian Science, I have not previously glorified God in a written testimony. The desire to do so now prompts me to tell of just a few of my experiences, hoping they will help someone who is discouraged, as reading the testimonies has helped me in times of discouragement and given me renewed hope.
Christian Science came to me many years ago while I was with a theatrical company. I was very young and restless at the time, and one of the older women in the company took an interest in me. Sensing my restlessness, she told me one day that she had a book which she thought would help me if I cared to read it. She said it was the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had never heard of it, but I told her that I would read it. Although I did not understand much of what I read, I realized that my restless condition was due to my ignorance of what Life really is, as I knew nothing about either God or the Bible. The statements I did understand were very beautiful, and while I did not realize it then, they impressed me.
The following season, while playing in another city, I learned that the stage manager was a student of Christian Science, and I asked him where to purchase a copy of Science and Health, as I wanted to read it again. He directed me to a Reading Room where I purchased a Pocket Edition, and that was the beginning of my earnest study of Christian Science.
