BUSINESS: THE CO-ORDINATION OF SPIRITUAL IDEAS

From the September 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What is the true, the scientific concept of business? The answer to this question is earnestly sought by the businessman who is a student of Christian Science. He desires to know the truth regarding business in order that he may express God's government. He has probably gained from his study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, two important postulates: first, that there is more to business than outwardly appears, because material evidence counterfeits underlying spiritual reality; and second, that Science demands that only spiritual evidence be held real.

"Co-ordination" is defined by a dictionary as "harmonious adjustment or functioning." The material evidence is that good business comes through the intelligent planning and co-ordinate effort of individuals working toward a common purpose. Considered in the light of Christian Science, which replaces material concepts with spiritual, business is discerned as divine Mind's working out of the creator's own plan, with all of God's ideas in perfect co-ordination.

The term "co-ordination" is of special significance and greatly aids in the spiritual understanding of business as Principle's activity. Co-ordination connotes integration, unity or oneness of purpose, which points unmistakably to the divine origin of harmony. Our Leader says in Science and Health (p. 515), "All that God imparts moves in accord with Him, reflecting goodness and power."
