ENCOURAGING THE CHILDREN'S CONTRIBUTION

From the September 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

On the occasion of the dedication of the original edifice of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy expressed gratitude to the children who contributed toward the building of this edifice. She praised their efforts and spoke of children as being the hope of the race.

Pupils in the Christian Science Sunday School today have an important contribution to make to the world, that of demonstrating to their utmost ability the truths they learn. It is never too early to alert children to their spiritual responsibility of daily practicing their religion, for in this way they help to free mankind from bondage to false beliefs. Teachers in the Sunday School, and all who are associated with the spiritual education of children, have the important task of seeing that the children do not merely accept the truths of Christian Science but demonstrate them.

It can be explained to the children that every time they are obedient instead of disobedient they are expressing the Love that heals. Every time they replace the false mental picture of a sick or sinning mortal with the true picture of man as spiritual, made in the image and likeness of God, they are practicing Christian Science.
