SHARING THE GOOD TIDINGS

From the September 1956 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Does one long to share the good that has come to him through the study of Christian Science? If so, he will find that one of the most joyous and rewarding activities in the Church of Christ, Scientist, is that of a worker on a literature distribution committee. The opportunity to bless mankind through the placing of Christian Science literature where it may be taken freely by those reaching out for Truth is seen as a privilege by every truly consecrated worker. In Isaiah we read (52:7), "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!"

Literature distribution work should not be mechanical or stereotyped. It should have a divine impetus, which includes its own unfoldment and enforcement. The worker who recognizes the place and importance of the Christian Science periodicals as impersonal missionaries to world thinking is himself blessed with increasing understanding of that Love which encircles the universe. Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 13): "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, 'Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.'"

Literature distribution work is a healing work. Many times testimonies published in the Christian Science periodicals or shared in the Wednesday testimony meetings give evidence that first acquaintance with this regenerating religion came through a copy of The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, The Christian Science Monitor, or The Herald of Christian Science, which was found in a distribution box and which met a need for physical, moral, or financial healing. What a joy it is to each worker to have a part in this impersonal healing work!
