"Gratitude unexpressed is ingratitude." These words, spoken at a meeting of branch church members which I attended, have remained in my consciousness and now impel me to give my testimony.
At birth, our son was strong and healthy. After a few days he became drowsy and could not be aroused for his meals. The child's bassinet was close to a register from a gas-fired hot-air furnace, the air intake of which was in the cellar. Defective combustion permitted a small amount of fumes to escape into the cellar and thus into the air circulation system. The fumes were not strong enough to be readily detected.
The Christian Science practitioner worked faithfully, and the Christian Science nurse remained calm and hopeful. At the end of three days it was uncovered that the child was being asphyxiated. I was full of fear when I saw how nearly fatal it had been. The nurse said, "Let us sing and rejoice as we have been doing these past three days." In a few hours after the child was moved away from the hot-air register, he awoke and took nourishment. Soon he was as well as ever.
