My introduction to Christian Science came when I was engaged as soloist in a midwestern Church of Christ, Scientist, some years ago. I was told that the solo should be appropriate to the Lesson-Sermon for the week in the Christian Science Quarterly. This made it necessary for me to study the lesson each week. My wife joined me in this weekly search for appropriate, song texts, and together we started on our road to a new church affiliation.
I was greatly impressed with the friendliness, the quiet assurance, and the love expressed by the church members. The impersonal pastor, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, particularly impressed me. At first it was difficult to accept as true the many testimonies of healing I heard, but little by little, light began to enter my consciousness.
My first healing occurred one Wednesday evening during the testimony meeting when I realized for the first time in many months that I was able to open my mouth freely. My jaw had been X-rayed, and the physician had informed me that there was a small growth in the jaw tissues. He was not hopeful that anything could be done for me. and subsequent medication brought no relief. This healing was accomplished by my early, unacknowledged acceptance of the teachings of Christian Science.
