"Gratitude is much more than a verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech." These words from page 3 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy have prompted me to do many things through the years with no thought of receiving in return. I have just been happy to have an opportunity to give in this way my thanks to God for the most precious thing I have, the privilege of being a student of Christian Science.
Healings of diseases and of a broken bone, the overcoming of fear and lack, and experiences of protection are some of the blessings for which I am grateful, but one experience stands out from all the rest. On this occasion our family was camping in Yellowstone National Park. Our oldest daughter, who was almost five years of age, strayed away from camp about seven o'clock in the evening. After an hour of looking for her in the falling darkness, we reported her absence to the park officials, who sent out a search party.
At midnight, when the searchers had failed to find any sign of her, I drove to the park headquarters ten miles distant and called a practitioner in our home town many miles away, who took up prayerful work for the child.
