OUR SURE DEFENSE

From the October 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (Ps. 91:1). Unnumbered individuals have been inspired and protected from imminent danger by finding and dwelling "in the secret place of the most High."

This secret place is not a far-off abode; it is as close as our thinking. Deep metaphysical attainment is not required of us in order to find it. Rather, with childlike simplicity, we need to accept the fact that right where we are, we are in the presence of the Most High. We need to gain the calm realization that God, being omnipresent, fills all space and that therefore there is no evil. Divine Love's all-inclusive goodness, its permeating infinity, precludes presence to anything unlike itself.

Having found our true dwelling, we must be sure that suggestions of evil's ability to reach to the earth's remotest bound and penetrate beyond it find no access to our secret place. If allowed to enter consciousness, these suggestions appear to be able to evict us from our heavenly security.
