Gratitude for Christian Science impels me to write this testimony in the hope that it may help others. Not only am I grateful for my health and well-being, maintained through the teachings of this Science, but also for the fact that Science has brought mankind a clearer understanding of God, enabling them to prove the Master's words (John 8:31, 32), "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
About thirty-five years ago my sister went into a theater where a Christian Science lecture was being given. She had never heard of this Science, and she did not feel she understood much that the speaker said. However, later on, when she was forced to give up a secretarial job on account of illhealth, she asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for her.
She was requested to study the textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which she did, and in three days she was well. She was so filled with joy in the realization of God's healing presence that she felt like shouting from the housetops. My family was so impressed with this healing and with my sister's changed attitude that we began to study also, and we have continued to study ever since.
Christian Science was our only physician in rearing four children, and it always brought healing results. Mumps, chicken pox, measles, scarlet fever, whooping cough, and typhoid fever were all faced without fear and were banished quickly. I cannot express sufficient gratitude for the loving practitioners who helped us along the way.
When quite a new student, I heard a lecturer say in substance that if a Christian Scientist should awaken some morning with a cold, he ought to recognize clearly that God alone is the source of his being, that a cold has no relation to God or to His image and likeness, and that therefore he has a right to repudiate its claim. Soon afterward, when I was unable to sleep one night because of a severe cold, I spent several hours praying along the lines indicated by the lecturer's message. As soon as I gained a clear sense that man, as a child of our all-loving Father-Mother God, is immune to disease, I became free and slept peacefully the remainder of the night.
An important fact resulting from this healing is that from that day to this, I have never had a cold. This confirms Mrs. Eddy's words (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 54), "When once you are healed by Science, there is no reason why you should be liable to a return of the disease that you were healed of."
An outstanding healing occurred while my husband was suffering from the effects of an automobile accident. One evening he was sitting on the porch, where the sun was casting its rays. I came onto the porch, and as I did so, he said, "I feel very queer."
From the evidence it was apparent that he was about to pass on, but almost instantly I saw clearly that there was no door through which he had to pass to reach eternal Life. I knew that Life in all its fullness, wholeness, and perfection extended right to where this condition appeared to be as surely and as clearly as the sun was sending forth its rays, which were resting on us then and into which no darkness could enter.
In a few moments my husband said, "I am safe now." He got up and walked into his bedroom, where he slept peacefully throughout the night. He was soon in his usual good health. This experience was recalled recently when a lecturer pointed out that there is no mortal life which can experience death, because there is nothing unlike eternal Life, God.— Charlotte, North Carolina.
