"THE ONE QUESTION TO BE CONSIDERED"

From the April 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Spiritual causation is the one question to be considered, for more than all others spiritual causation relates to human progress." This emphatic statement on page 170 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, should awaken us to recognize that in our efforts to advance to more spiritual heights, our basic need is to understand that there is but one real cause from which proceeds every true effect.

A primal cause producing its own invariable effect implies the operation of immutable law. Because mankind has been taught to believe that the evils called sin, disease, and death operate in human experience through irresistible forces of matter called laws, those who are working to demonstrate man's God-given dominion in overcoming these evils urgently need a scientific, accurate concept of law.

Christian Science, with its wondrous revelation of divine or spiritual law, has come to show mankind that God is Principle, the one source of law. On this basis, this Science provides the certain remedy for material law, the counterfeit sense of law, on which matter bases its fraudulent claims to causative power, action, development, and inescapable effect.
