One day over twenty years ago I became ill at my place of employment and was about to leave for home when a kind friend and colleague asked me if I would like to read something about Christian Science. I agreed to do so, although I could not understand how reading could help me. My friend then drew from his office desk a well-worn copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
On arriving home, I began reading the book and was at once struck by the logical nature of the statements it contained and by the fact that it supplied the answers to many of the questions I had been asking for a number of years. I read eagerly for about two hours, feeling that the truth had begun its work. During this first perusal of the textbook, I was healed of the smoking habit.
The physical difficulty troubling me at that time was sick headaches, which were considered hereditary and which recurred at frequent intervals. With the patient and loving help of Christian Science practitioners at different times, I eventually gained my complete freedom. Over the years much wrong thinking has been, to my great joy, eradicated.
