As a child I was healed through Christian Science of tuberculosis of the hip. I attended the Sunday School from the age of ten until I was twenty. After I married, I joined The Mother Church and a branch church. I served faithfully in branch churches for some ten years. Then I allowed resentment to get a foothold in my thinking, and I stopped going to church.
About this time we moved from the town in which we were living, and after that for a period of about ten years, we moved frequently from place to place. Although I was wandering in a mental desert, I was protected and guided on many occasions. The truth which I had learned remained with me, even though I neglected active study during this period.
Then there came a time when I was like the prodigal son, who, when he had spent all that he had and had begun to be in want, "arose, and came to his father" (Luke 15:20). When things were very black and my home was broken, I turned again to my Father, God, whom I knew to be the only real help.
In looking back now over the five years since returning to the blessed truth, I can see God's guidance every step of the way. As I relinquished material thinking for the spiritual teachings of Christian Science and learned to say as Jesus did (Luke 22:42), "Not my will, but thine, be done," I regained a harmonious home. I learned that, as Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 41), "Like our Master, we must depart from material sense into the spiritual sense of being."
Now once again I am proving God's healing power. The smoking and drinking habits, acquired during the years of my wandering, were eradicated. Also, through the help of a practitioner, I found a satisfying place when looking for work. Through relying entirely on divine help, I have gained a glimpse of "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7), and I am learning true patience and humility.
I am indeed grateful for this Science of Life, which Mrs. Eddy discovered and called Christian Science. Her great love of mankind gave her the courage to carry out the organization of the Christian Science movement with its various healing activities. I am humbly grateful for my years of membership in The Mother Church and for my more recent return to membership in a branch church.— Seattle, Washington.
I am happy to verify the testimony of my daughter in regard to the healing of a tubercular hip. One of the child's legs was three inches shorter than the other. On examination, a physician pronounced the case tuberculosis of the hip and stated that immediate hospitalization was necessary.
Instead of sending the child to the hospital, I requested help of a Christian Science practitioner. Within a month the healing was complete, and there was no limp. When X rays were taken to satisfy the school authorities, no sign of the diseased condition was found.
I have been a student of Christian Science for nearly fifty years and am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, as well as for healings of myself and of my family through the past years.— Seattle, Washington.
