DEMONSTRATING ABSOLUTE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

From the September 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The genius of Christian Science as revealed to Mary Baker Eddy is to inspire human thought with the grand possibilities of demonstrating now the absolute healing power of God. Mrs. Eddy saw that divine law operates in place of erring material law; that Spirit is evidenced through its spiritual creation and not through matter. She grasped the absolute facts of spiritual being and made them clear to human apprehension through Science. Thus each student of this Science may utilize the facts of God as law in daily practice.

Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 22), "Christian Science translates Mind, God, to mortals."This translation of God to human consciousness is our access to the absolute knowledge of spiritual being. The purpose of translating one language into another is to make ideas more universally understood. God's perfect creation, including man, needs to be translated to mankind, and this is the function of Christian Science.

No one who believes in God questions that He is absolute. God's entire universe is absolute because it includes only perfection. Everything spiritual is absolute because it exists apart from materiality and is complete in its own nature and character as God created it. Only the understanding of an absolute God, free from inharmony and imperfection, can uplift human thought and heal it of its discords and belief in matter.
