NO ACHILLES' HEEL

From the September 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Homer's legend of the Greek warrior Achilles, whose body, with the exception of his heel, was incapable of injury, has resulted in the often-used expression, "Achilles' heel," meaning "vulnerable point." The study of Christian Science reveals that the real man, the man of God's creating, has no vulnerable spot, no weakness, by which evil or error can reach him, because he is completely spiritual.

In the Bible we find the statement (Gen. 1:27), "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Mary Baker Eddy sets forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" a statement which she calls "the scientific statement of being." It concludes (p. 468): "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual."

An understanding of man's complete spirituality is the basis from which each individual can proceed to refute evil of any description and prove his invulnerability to it. This understanding becomes an armor and defense against error in every form.
