Testimonies of Healing

For many proofs of God's infinite care...

From the September 1958 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For many proofs of God's infinite care for His children, I am deeply grateful. Since early childhood I have received healings through the application of Christian Science. Some have been those of influenza, earache, and so-called children's diseases. Protection from accidents has also been experienced.

Shortly after my marriage, a physical condition became quite alarming, and since hemorrhages could not be stopped, my husband, who was not at that time interested in Christian Science, asked me to consult a physician. This I did and was advised to have an operation at once.

I called a Christian Science practitioner, who declared man's perfection as an idea of God and gave me the healing message from the Scriptures (Hebr. 4:12), "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." The healing inspiration of these words so filled my consciousness that I felt an immediate release and was completely healed. This was many years ago, and the healing has been permanent. Indeed, until I recalled it with a thankful heart and a wish to share, it had been all but forgotten.

At the time my first child was born an overdose of ether was administered to me. When it appeared that I was passing on, the angel message came to me, "There is no death." According to the medical report given to members of my family, at that moment all material symptoms of death disappeared, and I regained consciousness.

I realized later that the words which had come to me were from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (pp 427, 428), "Thought will waken from its own material declaration,'I am dead,' to catch this trumpet-word of Truth, 'There is no death, no inaction, diseased action, overaction, nor reaction.'" I know that the understanding of Christian Science which I had gained as a child in my attendance at a Sunday School and the loving support of dear ones resulted in this proof that God is Life.

At one time in my experience the truth of the statement, "Love takes us all the way," was demonstrated. When returning from New England with friends, we were caught in a flood. Two of us in the automobile were Christian Scientists, and when the situation became alarming, we are able to lift our thoughts to God's protection. We safely passed over roads and bridges which were washed away shortly afterwards. We found shelter for the night, and, like Paul in his journey toward Rome, we were shown "no little kindness" (Acts 28:2).

In the morning, we found many cars stranded in the water, but our automobile was found to be on dry land, undamaged. At first the suggestion presented itself that we had gone as far as possible for the time, but we knew that divine Love meets every need. We continued our trip home without incident over roads which were shortly afterward closed to travel for many days. Our hearts indeed were singing that we had found the way.

An understanding of man's real home resulted in our being led to obtain a house which has blessed us and others as well. When the thought presented itself to look for larger living quarters, Mrs. Eddy's words on page 232 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" were studied and applied. She writes, "The right way wins the right of way, even the way of Truth and Love whereby all our debts are paid, mankind blessed, and God glorified." When thought was cleared of all human outlining, our home was obtained under circumstances that indicated clearly it was the right one. Certainly mere human planning could never have led us to this beautiful evidence of home.

I should like to add my appreciation of our Sunday Schools, both for the practical truths I learned there and for the privilege of seeing my sons grow in an understanding of divine Science as a result of their attendance. It is a joy to testify to the efficacy of the healing power which they have learned to demonstrate.

A clearer understanding of man as God's idea has brought about an abundant expression of harmony in our home. My prayer is that I may so reflect God's love that I may become a better transparency for Truth.—
