In the Bible we read (Ps. 105:1, 2): "O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works." With profound gratitude I want to tell of God's "wondrous works" in the healing of false appetites.
Most of my business endeavor has been in saleswork, which required traveling a great deal. When I began this work, I had never tasted liquor and had no desire to taste it. As time went on, however, the occasions for social drinking became frequent; and I indulged in it, believing that drinking was necessary to success in my work, but I was ignorant of its vicious, habit-forming nature. Gradually it went far beyond mere social drinking and gained such a strong hold on me that my home life became discordant, and my sales effort so diminished that extreme lack became a major problem.
In great earnestness I struggled to overcome the habit; but more than human will was required, and I failed despite all human effort. I then began to realize that I of myself could not meet the problem. During this experience I had learned of Christian Science and at intervals had read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
