Members of branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, have a great opportunity to prove the truths they daily acknowledge in their study of Christian Science. This opportunity is particularly apparent in members' meetings, in which the business of the church is taken care of and human opinions enter discussions.
A steadying and healing influence pervades such meetings when the members keep in mind the motive of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and the years of devoted effort she expended in bringing her purpose to fruition. Mrs. Eddy says in "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 30): "The motive of my earliest labors has never changed. It was to relieve the sufferings of humanity by a sanitary system that should include all moral and religious reform."
Whatever comes up for attention in church meetings must be seen as sub-serving the dominant purpose of the church to bring enlightenment and healing to all mankind. A branch church membership which is dedicated to this healing effort is letting its light so shine before men that they will see the good works of Christian Science and glorify God.
