The writer once took a college course entitled "Types of Rebel Thought." Christ Jesus was prominent among those discussed. He was depicted as a proponent of ideas so far advanced over those of his day as to be termed "radical." Later the writer, upon becoming a student of Christian Science, began to realize for the first time how truly radical Jesus' words and, even more important, his proofs of their veracity—his works—really were. They were so radical, it then became apparent, that they denied the almost universal belief in the reality of matter.
Jesus proved God's allness and the unreality of matter by healing case after case of disease and deformity, even death, by seeing only the perfect man, the true creation of Spirit, the harmonious reflection of Life, Truth, and Love. When the authorities of the synagogue rebuked him for healing on the Sabbath, his total reliance on God put the right words in his mouth to show the emptiness of creeds and ritual. We read (Luke 13:17), "And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him."
Students of Christian Science are convinced by similar proofs which come to them in daily living that this religion is the true manifestation of the Christ in the modern world. They understand and apply Jesus' way of healing because of the inspired revelation given to them in their textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, their Leader.
