On learning of Christian Science healing for the first time, some people say, "I wish I could believe that." This statement, in a measure, epitomizes mankind's yearning for a way out of the misapprehensions and limitations imposed on them by illusive human theories and doctrines. Today Christian Science is supplying the answer to this poignant yearning. All may find the way.
Touching on this point in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy declares (p. 98): "Beyond the frail premises of human beliefs, above the loosening grasp of creeds, the demonstration of Christian Mind-healing stands a revealed and practical Science. It is imperious throughout all ages as Christ's revelation of Truth, of Life, and of Love, which remains inviolate for every man to understand and to practise."
Why, then, do those longing for a new way of life sometimes hesitate to accept Christian Science when offered? Generally speaking, individuals are reluctant to acknowledge as true whatever does not conform to conventional beliefs and practices, often despite convincing evidence to the contrary. But the prejudice, skepticism, timid conservatism, and indifference which seem to obscure the beneficent effects of Christian Mind-healing and foster this unnatural reluctance cannot forever delude mankind.
