TESTIMONIES IN BRANCH CHURCHES

From the January 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When the congregation is small at a Wednesday testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist, one is sometimes tempted to think, "If only our attendance were larger!" The implication is that the presence of more people would result in more testimonies. But is this truly the solution?

The Bible says of the Christ (Matt. 18: 20), "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Christian Science is in perfect accord with this statement. The degree of Christliness in the thoughts of the congregation is what really counts. Gratitude, the ability to discern and use the teachings of Christian Science, and the loving desire to help others are the qualities which make a testimony meeting fulfill its purpose.

Thus whether there are many people present or just a few, it is possible to have inspiring meetings. There is much that the individual church member can do to bring this about and at the same time further his own spiritual growth.
