Transparency for Truth

From the January 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I thought I was a good transparency.
My needs were amply met. My health was good.
No major problems came to trouble me.
My self-esteem, the fulsome compliments,
Told me that I was doing all I should.
Then one day came a penetrating ray.
My selfish pride I saw as an offense
To God's demands. Love gives to me so much,
And I am blessed in almost every way!
I know the talents granted me are such
I should be giving more and more and more.
It is demanded. Jesus raised the dead,
Stood in the midst despite the well-locked door.
He stilled the storm. But we have just begun.
Until the world is healed, the hungry fed,
And hatred stilled, there is no stopping place.
The task of proving Truth is never done.
Only perfection satisfies the need.
If we expect to see Him face to face,
we must keep utter faith in word and deed.
Until the pane is clean and clear as air,
We should not choose to stop. We do not dare.
