"THE STIMULUS OF COURAGE AND CONSCIOUS POWER"

From the December 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus, in his glorious healing v ministry, realized and utilized the power of spiritual stimulus. He said (John 5:30): "I can of mine own self do nothing"; and (John 14:10),"The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." Jesus' awareness of his oneness with the power of God enabled him to rouse and banish evil in all forms.

This spiritual stimulus is the one which Christian Science applies. The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, states in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 420): "The fact that Truth overcomes both disease and sin reassures depressed hope. It imparts a healthy stimulus to the body, and regulates the system. It increases or diminishes the action, as the case may require, better than any drug, alterative, or tonic."

The true, spiritual, stimulating agent is prayer, our conscious communion with God, whereby we perceive, as did our Master, Christ Jesus, the infinite capacities of our true identity as the reflection of God. Because man reflects God, he possesses unlimited strength and power.
