Christian Science is not just another religion. It is the way of Life, and it includes the healing of disease as well as the healing of sin. In this regard, the Church of Christ, Scientist, is fulfilling a very important function today in enabling mankind to find security, health, and peace.
Mary Baker Eddy had a clear sense of the tender mother love of God. This understanding of Love appeared in everything that she did. It was a radiance, a shining forth of Love, which included all and knew nothing of withholding. She gave this concept to mankind, thus revealing God's completeness as Father-Mother. Ever aware of humanity's longing for a better understanding of God and of healing, Mrs. Eddy established The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, that the divine completeness of God might be presented and more universally understood. It is fitting that her Church is also referred to as The Mother Church. This Church with its branches is now encircling the globe, bringing to the thought which is prepared to receive it a better concept of God, of man, and of Church.
Christ Jesus set forth the scientific basis of religion in his conversation at Jacob's well with the woman of Samaria. He said to her (John 4:24), "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." To some extent ritualism and creed have darkened this spiritual concept of worship. But Christian Science is presenting to the world the great truth of God as Spirit and of man as His spiritual image and likeness, and as this truth is understood and applied, healings occur just as they did in Jesus' day.
