INDIVIDUALIZING INFINITE POWER

From the December 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Throughout her writings Mary Baker Eddy has shown consistently that to obey the teachings of Christian Science, individuals must live in a Christly manner at all times. Her words in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" are a case in point. Here she says (p. 160), "To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science."

The spiritually minded-thinker turns intuitively to divine Mind, God, for guidance in order that he may know how to think, as well as how to act and how to live. Human consciousness obedient to divine direction is in constant relation with divine reality, and in this way infinite power is individualized in one's experience. This process is mankind's salvation from beliefs of mesmerism, dictatorial regimentation, and finite human attempts to outline and control others.

Christ Jesus, our great Way-shower, was an individualist. He always viewed things from the spiritual standpoint; hence he refused to be circumscribed by mere human opinion or false beliefs. He was adamant in upholding man's God-given rights of freedom when they were outraged or invaded or when holiness was traduced. He disdained materialistic rites and rituals, pomp and ceremony. He could dare to be different, for he kept his consciousness in constant relation with divine actuality. Thus he individualized infinite power for himself, as well as for the multitudes whom he healed.
