MAN'S AT-ONE-MENT WITH ETERNAL LIFE

From the March 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

AT one time, when a loved one passed on, a young Christian Scientist was lifted instantaneously to a realization of Life eternal and intact, and her thought was exalted and at peace. A few days later, however, mesmeric suggestions of false sympathy brought a flood of self-pitying tears and the anguish of separation.

Turning to God for strength and comfort, she was led to open "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mary Baker Eddy. Her eyes fell on the following words (p. 339): "Experience is victor, never the vanquished; and out of defeat comes the secret of victory. That to-morrow starts from to-day and is one day beyond it, robes the future with hope's rainbow hues." The darkness lifted. In its place was the radiant realization of man's at-one-ment with eternal Life, God.

The one true source of life and happiness is God. As we gain a clarified comprehension of Him and His Christ, we find the true ideal of divine sonship. The genuine surrender or dropping away of a false, selfish sense of material selfhood will bring to human relationships the brighter outlook of "hope's rainbow hues."
