PRACTICAL SCIENCE

From the March 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE present age is essentially practical and scientific. Many today are yearning to prove the teachings of Christ Jesus practical in daily experience. The question that occupies the thought of the earnest seeker is, What do I need to understand in order to demonstrate the practicality of these teachings?

Those who approach the study of Christian Science with an open mind will find that it provides a satisfying answer to this question. The study of Science shows that harmonious results in every human problem can be brought out both individually and collectively by a correct understanding of the nature of God and man.

Christian Science explains man and the universe as wholly spiritual. It accepts the definition of man which is found in Genesis (1:27) and which states that he is made in God's image. Since the Bible tells us that God is Spirit, it follows that man in His image and likeness must be spiritual. Paul wrote (Rom. 8:16), "The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God." In Christian Science, therefore, we discover man as the perfect reflection or idea of the one infinite Mind, God.
