"AND God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. . . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" (Gen. 1:26, 27).
In periods of dire distress, the first imperative need is to gain a clearer realization of the solid fact that one is in reality the man created by God in His own image and likeness and, as such, one can give expression only to eternal harmony, usefulness, completeness. That which God has created is capable of being, doing, and receiving good only. And regardless of tormenting material evidence to the contrary, there is no secondary creator or creation.
You and I are image. That being so, according to the foregoing plain statement from the Bible, what manner of original do we reflect? As we learn more of the nature of God, good, and recognize that the image can manifest nothing unlike the original, we feel a divine impetus toward conformity to spiritual reality. This humble effort at scientific conformity, or regeneration, is blessed of our Father, and Christian healing results. The sick are made whole. Sinful beliefs of selfishness, resentment, fear, lack, frustration, loneliness—whatever would deny the true nature of God and His likeness, man—will vanish from experience.
