In Luke's Gospel (19:37) it is recorded that the multitude who followed Christ Jesus rejoiced and praised "God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen." When some of the Pharisees called on the Master to rebuke the multitude, he said (verse 40), "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out." My first testimony was published in October of 1952. I feel that if I should now hold my peace and not speak again, "the stones would immediately cry out."
I have been studying Christian Science since I was a young man just out of my teens. In the beginning I had many remarkable physical healings, but the experience I should like to relate here is one that developed over a period of the last sixteen years, and finally, with each dawning day, became a more insurmountable problem.
At first, it was no more than a latent fear which was not mastered by my own work or by the work of Christian Science practitioners. During the first eleven years no physical discomfort was occasioned by it, but during the next four years it took the form of a stomach disorder. I feared it might be cancer. I did not tell anyone of my fears or suffering. My home life was also affected to the point where I contemplated a divorce.
